Plumber Intervention

NF DTU 60.1 (sanitary plumbing — calculation and installation rules), NF DTU 60.11 (pipe calculation rules), NF DTU 60.2 (cast iron pipes), NF DTU 60.31 to 60.33 (copper, PVC, PEX/multilayer pipes). These DTUs define minimum drain slopes (1 cm/m minimum), pipe diameters per fixture, and installation rules. Compliance is presumed to satisfy the Construction Code requirements.

Lead drinking water supply pipes should have been replaced before 25 December 2013 (decree no. 2001-1220 transposing European Directive 98/83/EC — threshold lowered to 10 µg/L). Lead pipe diagnosis is not systematic but CREP (Lead Exposure Risk Assessment) is mandatory for housing built before 1949. Replacement is at the owner's expense.

Main techniques: acoustic detection (correlation, electroacoustic — for underground pipe leaks), video endoscopic inspection (camera in pipes), tracer gas (nitrogen-hydrogen mixture injected into the network), infrared thermography (leaks under slab or in walls), fluorescein (dye for tracing flows). The choice of method depends on the type of leak and accessibility.

Water intended for human consumption must comply with the Public Health Code (articles R.1321-1 et seq.). DHW storage temperature must be at least 55°C and distributed at 50°C minimum to prevent Legionella (decree of 30 November 2005). Softeners must not lower hardness below 15°F. Anti-scale treatment must not affect potability. Annual checks are mandatory in public establishments.

Completion warranty (1 year): all reported defects. Two-year warranty: removable elements (faucets, toilets, water heaters). Ten-year warranty: waterproofing of embedded or buried networks, if the leak makes the dwelling unfit for its intended purpose. The plumber's ten-year insurance is mandatory (article L.241-1 of the Insurance Code). Verify the certificate before any work.
