Frequently Asked Questions
What is the recommended maintenance frequency for a solar farm?+
PR is the ratio between actual energy produced and theoretical expected energy (accounting for irradiation and installed peak power). PR = Energy produced / (Irradiation x Peak power). A PR of 80-85% is considered good for an installation in Europe. Losses include: cell temperature, cabling, inverter conversion, soiling, shading, degradation. Tracking PR over time helps detect abnormal degradation.
How to detect faulty solar panels?+
Infrared thermography (thermal camera or drone): detects short-circuited cells (hotspots), faulty bypass diodes, defective connections. I-V curve measurement per string: compares actual performance to theoretical performance. Electroluminescence (EL): reveals microcracks invisible to the naked eye. Real-time monitoring: alerts on production drop per string or per inverter. A production deviation greater than 5% from the expected PR (Performance Ratio) warrants investigation.
What are the regulatory obligations for a solar farm?+
By capacity: under 3 kWp (prior declaration), 3-250 kWp (building permit if ground-mounted), over 250 kWp (permit + environmental impact study). In operation: grid connection, feed-in tariff contract or remuneration supplement, Consuel compliance certificate, initial and periodic electrical verification (decree of December 26, 2011 - UTE C 15-712 guide). For installations over 100 kWp: possible ICPE classification if on an ICPE building roof.
What is the Performance Ratio (PR) of a solar farm?+
What is the lifespan of solar farm components?+
Photovoltaic panels: 25-30 years (typical manufacturer warranty: 80% power at 25 years). Linear degradation is approximately 0.3-0.5%/year. String inverters: 10-15 years (replacement planned at least once). Micro-inverters: 15-25 years. DC cabling: 25-30 years (UV protection required). Mounting structure: 25-40 years (aluminum > galvanized steel). The cost of inverter replacement must be provisioned in the business plan.
