Frequently Asked Questions

What standards govern industrial cleaning?+
ISO 14644-1 standard classifies cleanrooms by particle concentration per m3: ISO 1 (10 particles >=0.1 um) to ISO 9 (35,200,000 particles >=0.5 um). Common equivalences: ISO 5 = Class 100 (US FED STD 209) - operating room, semiconductor manufacturing. ISO 7 = Class 10,000 - hospital pharmacy. ISO 8 = Class 100,000 - standard clean industrial. Cleanroom cleaning requires specific protocols (non-shedding materials, validated procedures).
How to objectively measure surface cleanliness?+
Methods: visual inspection (subjective but common), ATP bioluminescence (measures adenosine triphosphate - result in RLU - Relative Light Units - in real time), contact slides (bacterial count after 24-48h incubation), gloss meter measurement (floors), surface cleanliness tape test (particles). ATP testing is the fastest method (result in 15 seconds) and most widely used in food and healthcare industries.
What is the cleanroom classification system?+
La norme ISO 14644-1 classe les salles propres selon la concentration de particules par m³ : ISO 1 (10 particules ≥0,1 µm) à ISO 9 (35 200 000 particules ≥0,5 µm). Équivalences courantes : ISO 5 = classe 100 (US FED STD 209) — salle d'opération, fabrication de semi-conducteurs. ISO 7 = classe 10 000 — pharmacie hospitalière. ISO 8 = classe 100 000 — standard industriel propre. Le nettoyage des salles propres exige des protocoles spécifiques (matériaux non relargants, procédures validées).
What PPE is required for industrial cleaning?+
Based on chemical risk assessment (SDS of products): chemical protection gloves (EN 374 - type per product), safety glasses or face shield (splash risk), respiratory mask with appropriate filter (A for organic vapors, B for acid gases, K for ammonia, P for particles), chemical protection clothing (EN 13034 or EN 14605). For work at height: fall arrest harness. For high-pressure cleaning: hearing protection (>85 dB).
How to manage industrial cleaning waste?+
Industrial wash water cannot be discharged into the network without authorization (decree of February 2, 1998 for classified facilities). Water loaded with chemicals, oils or pollutants must be collected and treated (internal treatment plant, or removal by an approved contractor). Empty chemical product containers are hazardous waste (waste code 15 01 10*). Waste traceability is mandatory (BSD - Hazardous Waste Tracking Form).
