Frequently Asked Questions
What are the performance classifications for joinery?+
MaPrimeRenov (based on income, overall energy savings), CEE (energy bonus), 5.5% VAT (property >2 years, energy improvement works), Eco-PTZ (up to 50,000 euros). Conditions: RGE-certified professional mandatory, windows meeting Uw/Sw thresholds. MaPrimeRenov Accompanied Pathway subsidies are increased for comprehensive renovations. Note: since 2024, single measures (window replacement alone) receive less support than multi-measure renovations.
What thermal regulations apply to window replacement?+
For renovation, the existing RT per element (decree of May 3, 2007) requires: Uw <= 1.3 W/m2.K for sliding windows, Uw <= 1.4 for casement windows, Uw <= 1.7 for French doors. To qualify for MaPrimeRenov: Uw <= 1.3 and Sw >= 0.3 (or Sw >= 0.36 for south-facing). In RE2020 (new build): Bbio imposes much stricter requirements covering the entire building envelope.
PVC, aluminum, or wood: which material to choose?+
PVC: best insulation/price ratio (Uf approx. 1.3), minimal maintenance, not recyclable as-is. Aluminum: slim profiles (more light), durable, recyclable, but thermal bridge if no TBB (Thermal Bridge Break). Wood: best natural insulator (Uf approx. 1.2-1.5), aesthetic, ecological, but requires maintenance (stain every 5-10 years). Wood-aluminum composite: combines wood insulation (interior) and aluminum durability (exterior).
How to verify correct joinery installation?+
Checkpoints: plumb and level (tolerance 2 mm/m), airtightness around the perimeter (foam + membrane), external weatherproofing (sealant or compriband), correct drip edge, functional hardware (opening, closing, locking), glazing per specifications (thickness, gas, coefficient). DTU 36.5 (window installation) and DTU 20.1 (masonry) define the rules for surface-mounted, tunnel, and rebate installation.
What subsidies are available for joinery replacement in 2026?+
