Frequently Asked Questions
What DTU standards apply to roofing work?+
No permit if like-for-like replacement (same material, same color). Prior works declaration mandatory if exterior appearance changes (article R.421-17a of the Urban Planning Code): change of material, color, addition of skylights. Building permit if structural modification (heightening, slope change). In protected areas (ABF): mandatory opinion from the Architect of French Heritage Buildings.
What is the minimum roof slope?+
When should a roof be replaced?+
Is roof moss removal mandatory?+
No, there is no legal obligation for moss removal. However, moss and lichen retain moisture, accelerate material degradation and can cause infiltrations. Cleaning is recommended every 3-5 years. Waterproofing treatment after cleaning extends lifespan. Caution: high-pressure cleaning is not recommended on tiles (porosity risk) - prefer chemical treatment and brushing.
What permits are needed for roof replacement?+
